The Department of Plant Pathology, Entomology and Microbiology is pleased to highlight an important achievement within the Crowley-Gall Lab, which Environmental Health and Safety recently recognized for exemplary laboratory housekeeping and safety practices. The recognition follows the lab’s annual safety survey conducted in February, during which the EH&S staff noted the team’s exceptional attention to detail, organization, and adherence to safety protocols.
Dr. Amber Crowley-Gall and her team were commended for maintaining an orderly, well-managed workspace, particularly in areas involving bee handling and other sensitive research activities. EH&S Assistant Vice President Paul Richmond praised the group’s “strong commitment to ensuring a safe working environment for all lab personnel,” noting that their proactive approach to safety sets a positive example for research programs across the campus. This achievement reflects the collective effort of the entire Crowley-Gall Lab team, including dedicated honors students who play an integral role in maintaining a safe and well-organized research environment. As part of this recognition, the lab will receive a certificate of achievement.

The acknowledgment was also shared with the ATRB Building Committee by Dr. Tom Maier, the Departmental Lab Safety Contact. In his message, Maier congratulated the Croweley-Gall Lab for their dedication to safe laboratory practices and highlighted how their efforts support initiatives to strengthen safety awareness and building stewardship within ATRB. “It’s great to see one of our programs being recognized for these efforts,” he wrote.
This recognition reflects the ongoing commitment of the Crowley-Gall Lab to maintain a research environment where safety, organization, and responsibility are prioritized alongside scientific discovery. Their efforts contribute to a stronger, safer community within PPEM and serve as a model for other labs across the university.
