John McCulloch

Pursuing excellence and professionalism in Entomology.

I obtained my BS and MS at Washington State University. My MS was med/vet focused, and I studied the reproductive biology and population genetics of the avian ectoparasite Ornithonyssus sylviarum (northern fowl mite). After obtaining my MS, I worked in the field from 2011 through 2018. I sampled salmonids for 5 years with the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife and worked as a hazardous waste chemist/CDL driver for Clean harbors Environmental Services for 1.75 years. Here at ISU I am quantifying the interactions between Bt corn, soil applied insecticide, and larval density on survival and sub-lethal effects of corn root worm. I am interested in population dynamics, genetics, and all things entomological.

I bring my passion with me in all I do. I aim to produce the best, and to deliver the finest work possible. I am committed to working with my colleagues, not against them. I stand for personal integrity and responsibility. I am a student of life and will never stop learning.

I enjoy many things outside work. A sampling of those things includes outdoor activities and exercise, music, swing dancing, cooking, and bonsai.
